Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
CountWord.com ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
CountWord.com does not collect, store, or transmit any text you enter into the word counter. All text analysis is performed entirely within your browser — nothing you type is sent to our servers.
We do collect anonymous usage data through Google Analytics, including:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Approximate geographic location (country/city level)
- Browser type, operating system, and device type
- How you arrived at our site (search engine, direct link, etc.)
This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you personally.
2. Cookies
We use the following cookies:
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid, _gat) — used to distinguish users and throttle request rates. These expire between 24 hours and 2 years.
- Theme preference — a single item stored in your browser's localStorage (not a cookie) that remembers your chosen display theme (Classic, Dark, or Colour Blind). This never leaves your device.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use the tool.
3. Third-Party Services
We use Google Analytics (provided by Google LLC) to understand how visitors use our site. Google may use this data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We use Font Awesome (via cdnjs.cloudflare.com) to display icons. Cloudflare may log requests in accordance with its own privacy policy.
4. How We Use Your Information
The anonymous analytics data we collect is used solely to:
- Understand which features and pages are most useful
- Improve the site's content and performance
- Monitor overall site health
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data Retention
Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted. We do not retain any other personal data.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights:
- GDPR (EEA/UK residents): Right to access, correct, or delete your data; right to object to processing; right to data portability.
- CCPA (California residents): Right to know what personal information is collected; right to request deletion; right to opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
7. Children's Privacy
CountWord.com is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date at the top. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
